Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
POTS is a condition plaguing many young adults and some older adults. The symptoms range from headaches, dizziness, pulse rate irregularities, digestive issues, foggy head, anxiety and depression. The syndrome in the past usually was given a General Anxiety Disorder diagnosis however now a days we understand it better. POTS seems to occur after a sickness with a viral/bacterial infection, a brain injury or a spinal injury. POTS may also exist in other chronic conditions involving autoimmune, diabetes, EDS and many more. Acupuncture has been shown to help with the resolutions of symptoms.
If you and a family member have symptoms of POTS it may be hard to get a diagnosis, but you can do things to help.
1) up salt intake (eat salty/protein snacks).
2) raise bed 2-6inches under head of bed. This allows the person to sleep at slant.
3) wear compression hoses.
4) start exercising in pool or on recumbent bike (monitor your pulse).
