Book Review – The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
My wish for you all, is a life full of good problems. The book is worth a quick read as it is always good to review one’s understanding of life.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, by Mark Manson was given to me by a close friend for reading. The book simply states several philosophies on positive thinking, entitlement and “giving a F*ck”. He discusses finding empowerment in everyday experiences verses everyone trying to be extraordinary. My favorite quote from the book occurs in a conversation the author has with the Disappointment Panda, while drinking margaritas. The Panda states “Don’t hope for a life without problems, There’s no such thing. Instead, hope for a life full of good problems”. A quote like this resonates with me. I have never found a person who does not have at least one problem. How we interpret our problems or what we view as problems also plays a role in the happiness of life. I think it is an innate trait that we always are looking for something to do and a problem to solve. This book provides simple solutions to how to deal with problems.
The book ends with a discussion of suicide which I did not enjoy because I felt if someone who was thinking of suicide might find it slightly intriguing. I would not necessarily recommend for someone who is suffering from self-harming ideation.
